High school football fans were entertained with what has become known as the "Battle of Franklin" on Friday night, October 1, 2004 as the Franklin High Rebels rolled into Centennial's stadium to play under the lights to a standing room only crowd.
These cross town rivals have battled it out on the football field for the past eight years. Franklin has claimed victory in all eight meetings and this past Friday night may have been the most exciting of all eight.
With only minutes left in the game and the Rebels trailing 14 -13, Centennial was threatening to score again on the Rebels 20-yard line. But with the Rebels defense digging in, Tim Leach (#77) picked up a Centennial fumble and stormed 80 yards to put the Rebels on top 19 -14.
Congratulations to these tremendous players, Head Coach Tim Johnson and coaching staff for maintaining the perfect record against a very good rival in Centennial.
For details and stats on the game, see the article in the tennessean.com.
