The Franklin High Rebels claimed victory Friday night
over an excellent Antioch team in round 1 of the Tennessee State 5A
Playoffs. Antioch, led by Lamarcus Coker, was as solid of a team as
the Rebels have played all year. Possibly, the best team the Rebels
have played all year. With time running short, and Franklin down 7
- 3, Derrian Waters hit quarterback Jonathon Haynes with a halfback
pass at the goal line for a touchdown, which set up the victory
for Franklin.
Shortly after, with less than 2 minutes in the game,
and trying for a long pass toward the end zone, the Antioch quarterback
put the ball up and FHS defender Shannon Derricks came up with the
interception. Franklin only had to take a knee for the next three
plays and came away with the win.
The Rebels will play Clarksville
on Friday, November 12, in round 2. The game will be at Franklin's
Howard Gamble Stadium at 7:00PM.
Congratulations to the team and coaches
for a hard fought win.
Strong Region?
You bet! If anyone has ever questioned how strong region
6 - 5A is in the state of Tennessee, Friday night's playoff games
answered that question. All four teams from the region defeated all
four teams from region 5 - 5A in round 1.
